The course explains basic electrical components, terminology, and safety. Special emphasis is placed on understanding digital VOM’s and using them to measure current, resistance, continuity, capacitance, and more. Math is kept to a minimum and the course is hands-on from the very beginning. As topics are introduced, students will be able to demonstrate them using their VOM’s and electronic boards. Direct application of each topic to real-world truck electrical systems will continually be demonstrated in areas such as testing batteries, continuity in circuits, testing for voltage, etc. This course can be customized to better prepare students for ASE mobile electric certifications. Course Outline: •Safety Guidelines -PPE -General electrical safety practices -Lock out/Tag out •Electrical Fundamentals -Basic physics -Ohm’s law -Watt’s law •Circuit Fundamentals -Overview -Elements -Circuit protection -Kirchoff’s current and voltage laws •Circuit Analysis -Resistors, inductors, capacitors -Series and parallel circuits •Basic Magnetism -Fundamentals, magnetic fields, polarity -Solenoids, relays •Circuit Components -Switches, diodes, transistors -Transformers -Sensors •Electrical Testers -Multi-meters, probes and accessories -Meter Readings
